Nomura Samurai House

On a day that T was busy with a work conference, a friend and I decided to spend the day to get to know each other and the city of Kanazawa a little better. After grabbing a bite to eat, we ventured into the historic samurai village district and stumbled across the Nomura Samurai House. This was a traditional Japanese house where the Nomura family lived for 10 generations. The inside featured a small museum display of artifacts dating back to the Edo period. The house is also famous for it’s meticulously kept garden, which you will see pictured below. To this day, the Nomura garden is one of my favourite places in Japan. It’s not big at all, but every inch of the garden has been carefully designed, groomed, and maintained, and my friend and I sat for about 20 minutes just listening to the trickle of water and watching the koi fish glide through the river.
