The Horai Festival is an annual celebration of one of the local shrines in the city of Hakusan, Ishikawa. Vendors run food stalls on the streets while performers dance and shout on the main strip. The main event of the festival is when up to 5 metre-tall floats are carried – yes, CARRIED – down the streets by locals. These floats are made mostly of wood and weigh hundreds of pounds, which is why you’ll see somewhere around 15-20 people carrying each one. Below are shots from our night at the Horai Festival.
